Open Doors

“When one door closes, another opens; but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us.” Alexander Graham Bell once said this famous quote, which I believe is very true because it happens to me and as well as people all around me. We tend to get caught up in our past that we lose sight of what all the good things that are in the present. Some people are afraid of change and the look back thinking “what if”. It is important to keep a positive attitude and be open to new open doors because good things will come sooner or later.

I like what Alexander said it helps me keep in mind that everything that was lost is only for something better. When I was younger I moved schools many times and every time I dreaded it. I was afraid of coming to a new school where I did not know anyone, everyone had their own friends already and I felt like an intruder. However even though I moved a lot and it was hard for me, I always managed to find friends that I grew to care so much about but that wasn’t always how I looked at it. I focused on my old school time and time again that sometimes I feel I missed out on opportunities that passed right by me in my new school like participating in activities that would have benefited me in the future. Getting caught up in my past did me no good, but now I try and take advantage of every opportunity because I always learn new things and I get experiences that will do me good in the long run.

Time doesn’t go back so it if we look in the present and make the best of what we have we will not have regrets later. Closed doors only mean another opened one we just have to look for the entrance. We only live once so walking through that open door is all we have to lose. It is okay to think of “what ifs” we need to be careful not to dwell on the fact because that will not change the future.  Just like getting up every morning is a new day so are new open doors, like the shift from one day to another. So having that perspective in mind can help us through thick and thin with always having another open door ahead of us for greater and life changing experiences.

  1. I love your quote because I believe in it. We cannot spend time dwelling on the past because new doors and opportunities are opening everyday. Sure once in a while we all say the same words "what if", but just like you said,"We cannot dwell on them for too long." The future holds many mysteries and opportunities that we must take advantage of.

  2. Theresa, the quote you chose is so good. I completely agree with this quote because it is true. Wheteher or not people agree, it has some knowledge for us to look upon now, especially since college is near. I like how you mentioned that the past was the past and that we should look at the present. I really enjoy your post and excited to read more. :)

  3. Teresa, this is a very relateabke topic. When i was reading about how you moved schools i felt the same way, i moved around a lot as well and understand what you went through. the past is the past and like you said it should stay there, we must focus on the present and what is to come next. alexander quote is something all people show view true, because eventually good things happen. I personally believe that everything happens for a reason and that you must take advantage of the opportunities that present themselves to you becase you dont always know if you will get a second chance at them or not. By the way, i like your layout set up, its kind of cool!

  4. It must of been hard for you to move from school to school. My cousin Adeline has had the same sitution. I'm happy you were able to keep your head up and not dwell in the past. I agree with your statement that we should not stay in the past becasue then we will loss sight of the present and future. What i enjoyed most about this post is how i felt sympathy for you as i read how you had to move from school to school. I'll keep my eye out for your next post. :)
